The Project

Project Overview

The SW 10th Street Connector Project is a comprehensive transportation initiative designed to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and strengthen regional and local connections in the City of Deerfield Beach and throughout South Florida.

The project centers on improvements along SW 10th Street, where two separate roadway systems are being created:

  • SW 10th Street Connector lanes, dedicated to regional traffic traveling between S.R. 862/Sawgrass Expressway and S.R. 9/I-95
  • A reconstructed local SW 10th Street designed to better serve adjacent neighborhoods and businesses and featuring a 12-foot-wide shared-use path to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists

In addition to SW 10th Street, the project includes significant improvements along S.R. 9/I-95 between north of S.R. 834/Sample Road and just north of S.R. 810/Hillsboro Boulevard, modernizing critical infrastructure and improving overall system operations.

Major project elements include:

  • Reconstruction of the S.R. 9/I-95 interchanges at SW 10th Street and S.R. 810/Hillsboro Boulevard
  • Expansion of the I-95 Express Lanes through the project limits to support continuous regional travel from one to two continuous lanes
  • Reconstruction of the NW 48th Street bridge to improve structural safety and long-term resiliency
  • Corridor-wide roadway, drainage, and safety improvements along S.R. 9/I-95 and connecting facilities

Together, these improvements are designed to separate local and regional traffic, reduce conflict points, improve safety, and create a more efficient transportation system for residents, commuters, and freight traffic throughout the region.

The SW 10th Street Connector Project is part of the Moving Florida Forward initiative, advancing critical infrastructure investments that support safety, reliability, and long-term transportation performance across Florida.

Project Timeline

The SW 10th Street Connector is progressing along a carefully planned timeline designed to ensure a safe, efficient, and community-driven delivery. Below is a snapshot of major milestones from the final design to long-term project completion.

Final design phase

The project team is completing final roadway and bridge design, advancing permitting, and coordinating with utilities and agencies to prepare for early works construction.

Ongoing

Early Construction

Early Construction Works are underway, including reconstruction of the NW/NE 48th Street Bridge, utility relocations, and upcoming noise barrier wall construction along SW 10th Street. These activities prepare the project for major construction in Summer 2027.

Current

Full corridor construction

Major roadway, interchange, and bridge construction will be delivered in carefully sequenced phases through 2032.

Who is Building the SW 10th Street Connector?

FDOT has selected two experienced construction teams to deliver the project, each responsible for a defined portion of the corridor. Prince/OHLA Joint Venture will lead Segment A, while Archer Western will lead Segment B. Working under FDOT's oversight and in coordination with local governments and stakeholders, both teams will operate under a carefully sequenced construction plan designed to keep the community informed and maintain safe travel throughout the construction.

As shown in the map below, the corridor is divided into two segments with a shared work area where both teams will coordinate closely to ensure seamless delivery across the full project limits.

Project by the Numbers

Explore some interesting details about the SW 10thStreet Connector Project:

  • Over 10,000 feet of noise barrier walls will be installed to help protect nearby neighborhoods from traffic noise.

  • A 12-foot-wide shared-use path will run nearly 2 miles, enhancing safety and mobility for pedestrians and cyclists.

  • Six new bridges will be built to carry regional traffic over local roads and intersections.

  • More than 200,000 feet of underground utilities will be relocated or upgraded as part of construction.
